Travelling and spending holidays is a dream of many people. I also feel excited when I can take a break from work and visit my favourite resort, like in Bali, Indonesia.
But, in this economy, I need to manage my finances. As we know, booking a resort is different from booking a hotel. Especially about the price.
Besides that, in my late 30’s I started to think that I just want to spend the holiday with my family at home. But, something is missing to create vacation and resort vibes.
I need to bring resort decor elements, in order to make my home feel like a real Resort that I can enjoy everyday. In this article, I will share about it to you:
Color Psychology in Resort Design Interior
First thing to do before making our resort decor at home, let’s learn about color Psychology of Resort design interior. It was taken from ssquaredarchitects.
This website has explained about three dominant colors that we usually see at the resort. These colors are also a mood booster for us to enjoy the holiday. Here there are:
- Blue, this color is tranquility that can make us feel fresh, calm, and relaxed
- Yellow, this color always brings happiness and brightness. Like summer as a right time for holiday.

It is possible to bring the holiday vibes into home. Provide, you know the elements that resonate with this design.
Let’s remain again, what did you see when you stayed in the resort? Based on my experience, I saw airy textiles, tropical plants, and rattan chairs like most resorts in Bali. Now, let’s create it at home, quoted from paperstitchblog here the steps:
Brings the Outdoor In
When we go on holiday, usually we are more close to nature. We enjoyed it from the resort with outdoor furniture that was available there.
If you want to bring these vibes at home, you can bring the outdoors furniture in. There are several that you can try. Start from a cane hanging chair, a bamboo day bed, or a woven Hammock.
If I have these in my room, I think I just want to waste my time here, while reading a book or listening to my favorite music.
Tropical Textile to Refresh
If you already have rattan or bamboo chairs, it is good news. Because these furniture resonate with the resort vibes.
What you can do to make it more refreshing is to put some tropical textile on it. You can find some inspiration by Googling.
A tropical textile identical with the bright color of summer. There are yellow, orange, blue, red, grey, and white.
Oversized Wall Art
I visited one resort in Bali 3 years ago. I remember the first thing I see when I enter the room, it is a big painting on the wall that has abstract design.
It makes the room harmonious because it has similar colors with the wall paint. This one also can be ideas to create it for home.
It is a must to put oversized Wall art that is very eye-catching. So, when you are relaxing in your room, you can see this and make it feel like your holiday at the resort.
Give your wall the Island Treatment
Most of the resorts are built near the beach or on small islands. You need to bring these vibes into your home as resort decor.
The simple way is to use tropical wallpaper for your wall. Choose one that has green colors like a leaf pattern. Other than that, you also can use grasscloth or warm plaster.
I have the same wallpaper too for my small kitchen. Because I often work in this area, I need to be refreshed by looking at this wallpaper.
Why Not for Houseplants
Another Outdoors to bring in is plants. To create the resort vibes, we need oversized plants to put in the center of the home like the living room.
A banana tree, dracaena, and bird of paradise are good options. Don’t forget to also use oversized pots for these trees.
Use Canopy for Bed
Let’s move to the bedroom, what to put as resort decor for this room? Try to add a Canopy bed like most of the beds in Mykonos.
Choose one that is made from airy-fabric because it will not make you uncomfortable while you sleep. It also protects you from the mosquito.
Let the Sunlight Enter the Room
When I stayed in my favourite resort in Bali, I took many pictures with my phone. I’m happy because the softlight is spread in my room.
That the resort vibes, when the natural sunlight comes and blends with the vibes. That is why, I always open all my windows to create this vibes plus I used rattan lamps for the night.
Give the Bathroom Spa treatment
This is one thing that I missed from my last holiday in Bali. I’m relaxing in the bathroom spa everyday, with the warm water and flowers inside.
We also can do this to transform the bored bathroom into a spa bathroom like in the resort. It is a plus for those of you who have a bathtub.
You also need to buy a Bathroom freshener spa series for the perfect vibes of the spa. Buy some bath bombs to make your shower activity more relaxing and enjoyable.
The Resort Elements is a Key
When you can’t get away because of busyness it doesn’t mean you feel unhappy and bored, just stay at home when you have free time.
You and I together can bring the resort and its holiday vibes into our home. For that, we can start with knowing the resort elements.
