9 Tips to Tile your Bathroom Alone

How to tile your bathroom by yourself without aid from tiler? Based on my experience, it can be daunted, but it was so easy, check here what I did.

I want to remodel my outdated bathroom, especially the floor. So, my plan is I will put tiles that I just bought online. I will put it all together by myself. 

I searched for a tile floor tutorial on YouTube, I tried it, and it was so easy. If you want to do this properly, here are some tips that I can share, to create a good result.

Tips for Tiles Bathroom

Based on my experienced doing tiles of my bathroom, here are what I did, and hope it useful for you:

Planning is Crucial

To avoid a messy finish, plan your tile rows well. You can start tile from the center line of a floor and walls. So, the same size looks balanced, even if there are any cut pieces.

This way will give you a Symmetry call and professional finish. You also have to mark out your tile rows with tile gauge. 

Check Before you Tile

You have to check your tiles, Don’t book a tiler until you check it. Make sure that it is the same as your expectation, and you like it.

Add Some Grip to Slippery Surfaces

This one is very important, you have to use tiles with suitable anti slip grading. This is usually used beside bathtubs and showers to avoid slipping and extra safety.

Usually, walls and floors also have anti-slip floor tiles made of many materials. It can be made of clay tiles or realistic Stones effect tiles. 

Consider the Good, Bad, and Ugly

This is about how to choose a tile product, you have to consider the good, bad, and ugly side of it. The natural Stones tiles might have slightly unappealing and cravices. 

But, sometimes, you might think the other one is bad tiles, but good quality and acceptable. You have really known and considered it all.

Prepare Your Surface

You have to make sure that your surface is ready for tiling. First, make sure that the walls and floor are dry and can hold the weight of tiling.

If you are not sure about the surface, you can plaster it before starting tiling. This is similar to the floor, if it doesn’t have level, then you have to level it with compound.

Protect your Hand

This is also important for your hands safety, to avoid irritating skin because it is too dry. That is why you need a rubber glove, then wear it for your hands.

Use Waterproof Adhesive and Grout 

Another thing that is very important is to use water resistant adhesive and grout for your tiling. The Function is to give moisture on the surface of your floor Tiles. 

You better choose the Adhesive for many functions, for walls and floor. Just a recommendation for your shower area, Ardex WPI is the best choice. It is acrylic based and has a flexible coating. 

Tiling Around Basins and Toilet

This is like the hard part, but you should tiling Around the Basins and Toilet area first. Leave them to set before you cut the pieces. 

Dispose Wisely

When you have finished your tiling work, but you still can see the left of the adhesive around, please don’t put it down on the toilet. You can pour the liquid into a plastic bag and leave it to set.
